Lake Tahoe is known for many things from epic skiing during the winter to relaxing summer beach days but regardless of how you choose to spend your time in Tahoe, everyone can agree nothing beats a cold refreshing beer! The art of craft beer has taken the nation by storm and Tahoe South has an explosive brewery and taproom scene with new spots popping up all over town. The South Tahoe Beer Trail is about enjoying quality locally brewed beer and having a great time doing it.

SLT Breweries

South Lake Brewing Company

South Lake Brewing Co. introduces a line of taps inspired by the natural beauty and essence of Lake Tahoe. Owners Chris and Nicole Smith pour their love for their hometown into their recipes and customers can really taste the subtleties and nuances in the beer. Sample the Angora IPA with hints of mango and pine or Marlette Blonde with notes of pear, honey and tangerine.

Lake Tahoe AleWorX

AleWorX has two locations that provide a unique craft beer experience. The taproom displays a wall of taps with LED screens activated by an RFID bracelet. It offers a one-of-a-kind adventure and opportunity to explore craft beer by serving yourself straight out of a variety of taps. They brew one in-house beer, Cali Common pilsner, but continuously rotate guest taps from the top breweries to keep the selection fresh and often have tap takeover events. They serve a variety of pizza and small bite options that pair well with the beers on tap. There is plenty of indoor seating and fun outdoor seating with fire pits and plenty of live music from various local bands.

The Hangar Taproom and Bottle Shop

The Hangar is a taproom and bottle shop with a unique beer selection not commonly found in the distribution region. The owners are known for personally picking up kegs and cases of beer from all over California. They feature 30 rotating taps that’ll be sure to feature something everyone will love along with can and bottle selections. They also feature a large dog park, cornhole courts, and firepits which create the perfect comfortable atmosphere.

Cold Water Brewery & Grill

South Lake Tahoe’s all-grain brewery features fun beer like Mr. Toad’s Wild Rye named in honor of the iconic Tahoe mountain bike trail and Mt. Tallac inspired Tahoe Cross IPA. The brewery occupies the building where the Swiss Chalet stood for almost 50 years. They have a full restaurant and offer interesting food options. The bar seating is limited but restaurant seating is plentiful.SLT Ale Trail

The food menu also has something for everyone, from classic bar food fare to specialties such as the Peri-Peri spiced pulled pork. The indoor seating is open floor family-style tables and during the warm summer days, they open the back patio.

The Brewery at Lake Tahoe

The Brewery, one of the oldest breweries in town opening its doors in 1992 and is still going strong. They are known for their Bad Ass Ale, a nice strong dark beer. They offer a full restaurant and specialize in pizzas made with their special dough. The seating is limited in the bar and restaurant but they have nice outdoor seating to provide a great Tahoe experience.
